Chad Martinovich Named Offensive Coordinator

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) Director of Athletics Ken Ralph has
announced the hiring of Chad Martinovich as an assistant football
coach.  Martinovich joins the staff of head coach Joe King as the offensive
coordinator.

"We are very pleased to have Chad join us," said King, who is entering his
16th season.  "He brings a great deal of experience coordinating offenses
and he has a similar philosophy to what we have done in the past.  Chad
will be a good fit here at Rensselaer."

Martinovich comes to Troy after spending the past three years as the
offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Hamilton College.  Prior to
his stint with the Continentals, he was the offensive coordinator and
quarterbacks coach at Swarthmore College for three seasons.  A former
quarterback at Hobart College, Martinovich has also coached the defensive
line at Bucknell University (1994), the linebackers at Hamilton (1995-96)
and the wide receivers at the University of Albany (1997).

"I am extremely excited to join the Rensselaer community and football
family," Martinovich said.  "I expect to learn a great deal from Coach King
and hope to help the program continue to be successful."

Martinovich, who graduated from Hobart in 1994 and earned his master's
degree from Albany in 2002, resides in Colonie with his wife, Erin, and
daughter, Hailey.

A native of Plattsburgh, N.Y., Martinovich replaces Brian Surace, who left
Rensselaer to become the offensive line coach at Northeastern University.

Rensselaer is coming off a season in which it posted a school-record 11
wins (11-2) and advanced to the NCAA Division III National
Semi-Finals.  The Engineers ranked among the leaders in the nation in
numerous statistical categories and established more than 50 school
records.  In the final national rankings, RPI was listed in the top ten in
all three polls and was recognized as the Eastern College Athletic
Conference (ECAC) Division III Upstate Team of the Year.  Rensselaer was
also the recipient of the prestigious Division III Lambert Meadowlands Team
of the Year Award.

The 2004 Engineers, who open the season on September 11 at Endicott
(2:30pm), return 15 starters, including five on offense, nine on defense
and a specialist.
